Permission to Say No

Business coaching for people-pleaser therapists who over-accommodate and struggle to hold boundaries in their practice.

I believe…

You deserve to prioritize your needs in your business.

I’m Katie Gilbertson.

My approach

You’ve worked so hard to build your practice - late nights creating your website, time off spent networking, creating documents and policies, building rapport and maintaining a caseload…and yet you feel stuck. Perhaps this stuckness stems from difficulty holding boundaries in your practice and prioritizing yourself.

I know what you’re thinking, “But Katie, we are helpers. We aren’t supposed to prioritize ourselves.” Well, yes and no. We are there to support and guide clients through healing which includes modeling boundaries and self-care. You are not able to take care of yourself properly if you aren’t making enough to survive, bend your schedule to accommodate everyone, or flex your policies so clients don’t get mad at you.

Here’s where our work together comes in…

We will focus on building a practice that is aligned with your values and suites your daily life. I’m here to support you in making that goal happen and boost you over the mental hurtles that have prevented this so far. Below is a list of areas we may cover together.

Things we’ll work on

Therapist Identity

Your practice is an extension of you. We will explore how your values and personality show up in your practice and how to feel confident as an entrepreneur.

Burnout Prevention

We will explore sustainable tools for managing burnout, including ways to prioritize your needs as a therapist and business owner. You’re allowed to be first, even as a helper.

Money Mindset

What messaging do you have around money and are they hindering you from paying your bills? We will explore ways to meet your financial goals without guilt.

Marketing

Are you people-pleasing in your marketing? Things like justifying your rates, spending all your free time networking, and not being clear in who you serve may be hindering your marketing. We will take a look at your marketing efforts and pivot them if needed.

Caseload Capacity

Do you feel overwhelmed by how many clients you see per week? It might be time to assess your caseload and how to say “no” to new clients if you’re already full. This is an important boundary to prevent burnout.

Assertive Communication

It can be challenging and uncomfortable to be assertive with clients. However, this is necessary to hold boundaries around cancellations and other policies that you may currently not be holding out of fear of losing clients. Let’s find ways to communicate boundaries that feel aligned with you.

  • Therapists who people-please or over-accommodate in their practice and struggle to prioritize their needs will benefit most from this service.

NOTE: This is not therapy. Though we may broach topics that are therapy adjacent (fears, anxiety, cultural messaging) it is important to process deeper with your own therapist. This is strictly business consulting.

  • $300/60min session

    4 session package $1100 ($275/60min)

  • I will offer insights on what has worked for me and other colleagues, as well as thoughts/concerns based on what you’re looking to build in your practice. I will only suggest, never tell you what to do. This is your business and it should look and feel how you want it to.

  • Permission to Say No is a 1:1 service. We will meet as frequently as you’d like based on the sessions you sign up for. There’s currently no course or group support.

  • Though we may touch on topics adjacent to therapy, we will not process deeper meaning, trauma, diagnosis, or conduct any clinical work. I highly recommend processing further with your own therapist should anything come up in our sessions.

  • There is no guarantee (though I wish I could offer one) of how your practice will grow over time. What you can expect is individualize support, from a dedicated practice owner who wants to see you thrive. You’ll get clearer on your financial goals, ideal client, practice identity, marketing strategies, and boundaries. The main result will be setting up the path for you to build and grow with time.
